Most blogging software uses Cascading Style Sheets to determine how the font will look throughout the site. You will need to figure out what yours is, but once you do you can use the following command to make font in your posts look like font in your site. You can create a post and enter one of the following codes and put your text in the middle and preview to see what each looks like.

Heading 1 Example

Heading 2 Example

Heading 3 Example

Heading 4 Example

Heading 5 Example

Heading 6 Example

If you need to create a table you can use the code below and modify it….

Column 1

Column 2

Hope this helps!

When I built this site I added features that I thought bloggers could use to connect with other bloggers. Some are sort of hidden so I thought I would tell you about them….

All of the features below are located in the Forum. You will need to be registered to view them.

Design & Implementation
If you have ever built a blog there has come a point where you had a question about how to do something and couldn’t find the answer. That is what this section is for, to allow you to ask questions and get answers. I am not a coding genius but I can usually figure it out and if I can’t hopefully some other reader will be able to!

Hot Deals
Every day we find great deals and are eager to share them with others. Whenever you find one, post it here so that everyone else can see it and link to your deal!

Link Trading
One of the best ways to build your blog is to start trading links with other blogs. Start a new topic here and start trading links with other bloggers!

Linky Posting
Adding your blog to a linky posting is a great way to get new readers and to build your inventory of back links. Back links help improve your Google rankings and will improve your placement in Google searches. If you are doing a Linky Posting or spot one, post it here!

Affiliate Questions, Concerns, and Advertising
If you have a question or concern about Affiliate/Pay Per Lead programs (including billing questions), post them here. Normally other bloggers have already been through what you are dealing with and can help out. This is also a great place to post your advertising questions!

I have been asked a lot over the last week how to create blog buttons. There are a lot of design companies that will build these for about $25 each. So if you don’t think you are up to the “design” challenge you can start searching for a company to help. I plan on adding a design section to the site full of graphic/web designers so if you know of any let me know.

If you think you are up to the challenge…keep reading!

First off it really isn’t that hard to build a simple button. You basically need a 125×125 or 160×160 image. The numbers are the size in pixels. There are several programs you can use, basically any graphics program can do this for you. I personally use SnagIt Version 9.1 which I got for free thru a trial program last year. I LOVE THIS PROGRAM!! I use it everyday to capture images for my other site. It is super easy to use and highly efficient.

If you don’t want to spend the money you can use PAINT, a program that comes with Windows so you should already have it installed. There is also a program that is coming with Windows7 called “The Snipping Tool”. You can use this to capture an image off your site to use as a button. Below are some basic instructions on how to use these two programs.

OK once you have your image you need to get the linking code so that others can grab your image and place it on your site. The best idea is to have the image uploaded to a third party site (or your own) and have the image pulled from there. Photobucket is a great (and free) option if you plan to use a third party. Otherwise you need to upload the image to your photo storage and then use that link.

Here’s the breakdown of the image link….

Replace the following with your information….
YOUR LINK – The link to your site www.yoursite.com
BUTTON IMAGE LOCATION – The link to where the button is stored
ALTERNATE TEXT – The text that will show up if the image doesn’t (usually website name)
BUTTON TITLE – The hover text (what shows up when you put the mouse on the image)

Once you have the link created and the image uploaded you need to put the button and the code on your side bar. Most blogging software offers an HTML widget or gadget. You can use that to post the button on your sidebar. First you need to add your image so you simply put the img src (image source) link and then you need to add a scrolling text box so you can give your readers the code they need to post your button on their sidebars. Below is the code you need to do this, simply replace the code necessary….

If your name is available (or anything close to it) you should definitely buy it. Why? Because chances are when you go to get it later it will be gone. If you have a blogspot account they give you a name.blogspot account but you don’t own your domain name. Domain names is the website address. If you plan to build up your site you NEED a domain name. They are super cheap and are necessary to build your sites brand.

Currently GoDaddy is offering domain names for only $5.59 this weekend. This almost half of what they normally cost. Still at less than $10 a year it is a great investment!

You can add a forum to your site in a matter of minutes using the Simple Press Forum plug in. After running a phpbb forum for a few years now I was AMAZED at how easy these were to set up and run.

Here’s the main site – http://simplepressforum.com/

To install you need to download the plugin to your computer. Then go to your Wordpress dashboard and click on “Plugins”. Then select “Upload” at the top. Select the zip file and upload it. You will be prompted to activate it, select to activate it. You now have a live forum!

You do need to set up the parameters of the site. On your dashboard you will now see a “Forum” link on the left side. You will also notice a new page created called FORUM, it will show in the top menu of your Wordpress site. Click on the forum link in the dashboard. Here’s the basic things you need to set up first….

- Click on Forums > Create a New Forum – set up the topics you want
- Click on Options > Global Settings
—– Set the Forum Slug – name it forum, community, or whatever you want (website address)
—– Choose to lock down the forum – if you lock down they need to register to see
—– Guest Settings – require Guests to register email to see or not
- Click on Option > Style Options
—– Choose your skin – there is a drop down of options – refresh the forum to see what they look like
—– Choose the forum icons – there is a drop down of option – refresh forum to see
—– Unselect the text options at the bottom you don’t want to show
—– There will possibly be duplicate text/buttons depending on the icons you select – get rid of them here!
- Click on Components – Login & Registration – set up registration parameters

That’s the basics to get it up and running. You will probably need to tweak things as you figure out what you need. The Simple Press Support Forum is a great place to ask questions if you have them. Or post a question in the forum here!

I was absolutely floored at how many plugins were available for Wordpress! In case you don’t know what a plugin is, it is a small application that modifies the functionality of your site. There are tons of cool FREE applications that you can add to your blog to do just about anything. Basically if you have a Wordpress blog you NEED to check out the Plugin Directory. I used several to get this site to do what I wanted it to and so can you.

Installing plugins on Wordpress is about the simplest thing ever. Go to the Plugin Directory and research the ones available for what you need to do. I would read reviews and see how many have been downloaded. The ones with the highest stars are usually the best. Once you find the one you want, click “Download” and save it to your local harddrive (My Documents or something). Make sure to read the “installation” tab on the plugin to find out if there is any special instructions.

Click on “Plugins” on the left side bar of your admin portal and then click “Add New”. This will take you to the upload file feature. Browse to the plugin you downloaded and upload the entire zip file. Once uploaded it should be open and running but you may need to “Activate” it. Sometimes little boxes will appear at the top of your admin portal with instructions on how you need to set up the plug in so watch out for those.

To see what plugins you have click on “Plugins” to the left and click on “Installed”, here you can activate and remove plugins as needed. Also you might want to check your left side bar closely after installing a plugin as they sometimes will add new menu features, normally these show up under “Settings”.
