Google Feedburner – Set up your RSS Feed/Emails

Setting up an RSS Feed is one of the most valuable things you can do for your site. It allows your readers to sign up for email updates and well as view your posts through an RSS Feed reader. This way they can keep up to date with all your latest and greatest posts.

Setting it up is relatively easy. First you need to click HERE to sign up with Feedburner. If you already have a Google account you can link it directly to your account. Once you have signed up/logged in, you enter your website address….

Once you do that if you have posts on your blog a valid feed should show up and it will walk you through the rest of the steps to set it up. At the end it will give you your feed link. You can publish this on your blog so others can sign up to view it. If you don’t see it, click on “Edit Feed Details” and then look for your link. It should appear as “http://feeds.feedburner.com/YOURWEBSITE”.

Once you have your feed set up you need to set up your email subscriptions. To do that, click on “Publish” at the top…..

Then click on “Email Subscriptions” to the left. Click on that and you will see a box full of code. You need to copy that code and paste it on your site. This creates a email subscription box where your readers can sign up. The box should fit on your sidebar.

You then need to click on “Communication Preferences” and edit the email that is sent to new subscribers. Make sure to enter all the relative information that is pertinent to your site. Next click on “Email Branding” , create a subject line and you can upload an image that will be posted at the top of your emails. You can also set up specific coloring (text, font, etc) that will brand the email to coordinate with your site.

After that click on “Delivery Options”, here you can set up the time that your emails will be sent out. These are pretty accurate, I have mine sent at 5:00pm and they are usually sent by 5:05.

After you have completed that step you are done! Although I would suggest testing the email subscriptions before posting on your site. Set it up and sign your self up. Set the delivery time to a few hours from when you create it and the emails should go out!
